Unlike most wooden combs, cranked out in overseas factories from porous nondescript woods, my individually handcrafted hardwood combs will never snag your hair, and, unlike cheap plastic ones, my hardwood combs will never cause your hair to crackle with static electricity.
I make my wooden hair combs from two kinds of wood, cocobolo and lignum vitae. Each of these beautiful woods has properties that make them ideal for hair combs.
Cocobolo is often called the most beautiful of all hardwoods. It conains natural resins that make it inherently resistant to moisture. The cocobolo I use is grown in Mexico on sustainable yield plantations.
Lignum vitae, the wood of life, is native to the Caribbean Islands and northwestern South America and has a storied past. This wood is one of the hardest known and contains naturally water resistant oils, making it perfect for wooden combs. Sometimes called "greenheart," when freshly cut it is medium brown in color with forest green streaks that come to predominate within a few days' exposure to air.
